What's New in Version 4.0?

Project Assignment Rules

Version 4.0 features a brand new project assignment rule system that allows work done with an Items or Tool to be assigned to a project. Work can be assigned for the current period only, or indefinitely by simply holding down the shift key while performing a project assignment. Project assignment rules on tools dramatically simply the process of creating a fully-assigned timesheet. This new feature also makes it much easier to automate timesheet creation for future timesheets.

Improved Stopwatch Behavior

The Stopwatch window now allows you to easily enable or disable the retrospective stopwatch feature, allowing you to get the most out of the Spherical Timesheet stopwatch system. When enabled, the stopwatch will start automatically when you leave your computer for a preset length of time. When disabled, the stopwatch will log an Unallocated task for the period of time your computer was inactive.

Task To Project Assignments

Tasks can now be directly assigned to projects for a single timesheet. This makes project reassignment easier, particularly when editing older timesheets. It also allows tasks to be assigned to projects directly from the timeline pane, speeding timesheet creation.

Extended Reporting

Tasks can now be listed individually in the timesheet (left-hand) pane. This means its possible to create a report that, for example, shows all the phone calls made in a given month.

Improved Microsoft Outlook Integration

Spherical Timesheet now installs an add-in for Microsoft Outlook which enables it to correctly log the subject, to and from lines of any email you read or write, even if you only read emails in the preview pane. This makes it easier to track time spent on emails.

Additionally, the new Outlook add-in also allows Spherical timesheet to import appointments from the calendar without the Outlook security prompts.

Revised Logger and Outlook Integration

Spherical Timesheet now handles Outlook Appointments more intelligently, only importing them when you leave your computer, or when the stopwatch isn't running.

Improved Error Reporting System

It is now possible for error report files to be emailed to your system administrator, rather than to Spherical Technology technical support.

Other Minor Fixes

Version 4.0 also includes a number of minor bug fixes, making Spherical Timesheet more reliable and easier to use.

Submit Timesheets Via Email

Perfect for businesses with staff in distributed locations, Spherical Timesheet now makes it easy for those who work remotely to receive updated project structures and to submit timesheets via email.

Retrospective Stopwatch

To make it much easier to handle unallocated time, the stopwatch has been upgraded to automatically prompt you to enter in your activities when your computer has not been in use for a reasonable length of time (user configurable). When it is time to create your timesheet, you'll find very little unallocated time, and you'll end up with a much more accurate timesheet!

File Path Detection

Spherical Timesheet's new file system driver automatically detects the full path name of the files you are working on, making it easier for you to distinguish between files of the same name. This drastically improves Spherical Timesheet's ability to correctly log your work and assign it to the correct project. This feature is available for Windows 2000/XP operating systems only.

Workgroup Upgrades

Creating and connecting to a workgroup has become even easier! With automatic account creation, users will be asked fewer questions and setup has become much easier. This version is compatible with your existing workgroup, and does not require any special upgrade procedure. You do not need to upgrade all machines in your workgroup at the same time. This feature is available in Professional Edition only.

New QuickBooks Invoice Export Formats

Now it is even easier to choose the information that appears on your QuickBooks invoices. Simply select your prefered QuickBooks export view from the Views/Reports menu before performing an invoice export operation.

Extended Outlook Integration

In addition to ensuring the correct subject line is extracted from your emails, Spherical Timesheet Logger can now collect and display who the email you are reading is from, and who it is going to (must be manually enabled from the Configuration Editor, not compatible with Outlook XP/2003). It is now much easier to work out the correct project to assign your emails to.

Database Purge Function

Commonly requested by users, this new feature allows old timesheet data to be deleted from databases.

Other Minor Enhancements

A number of other minor enhancements are present in this release, including various minor bug-fixes which have been reported by users. Problems with exporting some views to XML files have now been fixed.

What's New in Version 3.0?

Connect to QuickBooks Professional

Now you can easily automate billing! Spherical Timesheet Professional Edition now allows you to import customer/job lists and items from QuickBooks Professional, and export customers/jobs and invoices back into QuickBooks Professional. This new feature uses a direct connection to QuickBooks Professional, allowing for fast and simple data transfer without the need for temporary text files.

Connect to Microsoft Project

Essential for project managers, Spherical Timesheet Professional Edition now allows you to import your task lists from Microsoft Project, and export task lists and actual work back to Microsoft Project. This new feature uses a direct connection to Microsoft Project, allowing for fast and simple data transfer without the need for temporary text files.

New project bar

As requested by Spherical Timesheet users, Spherical Timesheet now includes a handy dockable project bar containing your project list. When you are creating timesheets, simply drag and drop items onto projects in the project bar for fast and easy timesheet creation.

Updated open period window

The open period window has been updated for easier selection of periods, and a better description of what each configuration is used for.

New temporal views and reports

As requested by Spherical Timesheet users, this version now has a number of new views and reports, allowing any period to be broken-down by hour, day, week, month or quarter.

Entity creation wizard and support for multiple logins

The entity system has been revised so that a single user entity (person) can have multiple Windows logins. The entity creation wizard walks people through the process of setting this up.

Support for non-western character sets

Spherical timesheet now supports non-western character sets such as Japanese and Hebrew.

Internal company billing

Organizations with multiple departments can now bill each using the new bill-to-entity system.

Improved absorb algorithm in cleanup

This new improved algorithm gives you a better overview of your work by more aggressively removing tools and items with little work on them.

New Help

The help system has been reorganized and is now available in a printable PDF file.

A number of other minor enhancements are present in this release, including various minor bug fixes.

What's new in Version 2.6?

Timesheets on portable devices

Nearly any portable device that synchronizes with Microsoft Outlook Calendar can now be used to make timesheet entries (compatible with Microsoft Outlook 2000/XP). Simply use the calendar on your portable device to enter in your appointments then synchronize your device with Microsoft Outlook Calendar. The next time you open a period in Spherical Timesheet your appointments will automatically be imported.

Microsoft Outlook Calendar integration

Spherical Timesheet now imports appointments from your Microsoft Outlook Calendar automatically during cleanup so you don't have to enter this information manually (compatible with Microsoft Outlook 2000/XP). Meetings and other appointments made using Microsoft Outlook now appear automatically in your timesheet where you can simply assign them to a project.

Operate offline

If you use Spherical Timesheet in a workgroup, you can now use Spherical Timesheet to log your work and create timesheets when not connected to your office LAN. You will be automatically prompted about this new feature after installation.

Improved unallocated time cleanup

Several improvements have been made to Spherical Timesheet's ability to handle unallocated time (ie. when your computer was switched on but you weren't typing or using the mouse). If you leave your computer on overnight, this is now automatically removed from your timesheet during cleanup. The cleanup system is also more aggressive in absorbing short blocks of unallocated time into the surrounding work, so that less user intervention is required to transform your logged work into a complete timesheet.

Absorb

This makes it easy to get rid of tools and items that you don't want to see on your timesheet. When you absorb a tool or item, all its tasks are absorbed into other tasks which you did at around the same time.

Faster and easier task editing

Tasks can now be edited directly from within the task properties window. Simply double click on an individual task to edit the start time, end time, or average load.

New Tutorial

Now featuring an easy 5-minute tutorial, Spherical Timesheet is even easier to learn. The tutorial can be started from the help pane on the right hand side of the screen.

What's new in Version 2.5?

New Add Work window

The Add Work window has been completely redesigned to make it even easier to create timesheets from your automatically logged data, and faster to create a timesheet from scratch. New features include:

Specify start time, end time, date and duration for a new task
Easily add tasks starting at the end of the day, so you can quickly create timesheets from scratch for those days when your computer wasn't on.
Locate blocks of unallocated time (time when your computer was idle) and effortlessly transfer them to new items in a single step.
Easily overwrite timesheet data between any start and end time.
Combine all unassigned items into a single item.
Easily add tasks at the start of a day.
Add work for any user in the system, allowing managers the option of entering in timesheets for their staff.

Copying of project structures

You can now copy and paste project structures, making the process of creating repetitive project structures very fast and easy.

Local currency support

Spherical Timesheet now automatically detects your local currency display format (as reported by Windows) for use in the billing and costing views.

Enhanced exporting

Spherical Timesheet has a new data export window that allows you to customize the output data format, perfect for exporting to spreadsheet programs such as Microsoft Excel.

Other minor updates

Faster Logger start-up time when accessing large databases
The icon for manually entered tools (Hammers) now have the handles correctly colored
Minor display and scrolling issues have been resolved

Enhanced database support

The Spherical Timesheet backend has been completely rewritten to use Microsoft ADO (ActiveX Data Objects), and now supports database engines including Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, and Microsoft Jet.

Workgroup Configuration Wizard

Spherical Timesheet features a handy Workgroup Configuration Wizard, making it easy to share timesheet and project data with other users.

Sorting and filtering of views

By popular demand, you can now sort your views in a number of different ways. You can also filter what you see in a view in a variety of ways, allowing you to, for example, view and print timesheets for individual projects or entities.

Easier support by email

Spherical Timesheet includes a new error report box, allowing you to email an error report directly to Spherical Technology Technical Support for fast assistance.

A new name
